Allopurinol for gout is my review of a YouTube video from a gout sufferer. In particular, I look at why this story of uric acid treatment is wrong, and what you can do to make sure your gout recovery is successful.
Allopurinol for Gout Audience
I wrote Allopurinol for Gout for gout sufferers who have lost faith in their allopurinol treatment without planning a safe replacement.
There are many reasons why people lose faith in uric acid treatment. So since allopurinol is the most common treatment, it is also commonly prescribed wrongly, or not taken properly. When this happens to people, I call them Gout Victims. But if you are not sure which type of sufferer you are, read Questions for Gout Sufferers first.
Uric Acid Treatment – The Wrong Way
Before I review the video, I want you to be aware of the only reason to take allopurinol. That is, to reduce uric acid to safe levels. Also, that applies to all alternatives to allopurinol. Including diet and herbal remedies. So it is pointless to change your diet, or pop an allopurinol pill, unless you also measure the effect on uric acid. Yet in the following video, the gout sufferer never mentions his uric acid levels. But you can never control gout unless you control uric acid levels. So don’t be a victim and always know what your uric acid level is. Then always see how changes to your gout treatment affect your uric acid.
Allopurinol for Gout Video
In a nutshell, this is a story of failure to complete allopurinol treatment for gout due to painful side effects. But despite kindly including a link to this website (Allopurinol Medication: Why It Hurts To Get Rid Of Gout) the gout victim completely ignores my advice about managing pain during allopurinol treatment.
My views on Allopurinol for Gout
- Always monitor uric acid. If you get well below 5 mg/dL, the time you are at risk of gout flares is shorter.
- All uric acid treatments can cause temporary gout attacks in the first few months, not just allopurinol. Including natural diet changes and herbal medicines.
- Healthy diet is important for most diseases, not just gout.
- Pain control is a vital part of allopurinol treatment for six months.

Your Allopurinol for Gout
Taking allopurinol for the first time is a big step for most gout sufferers. You need a plan that includes a target uric acid level and pain relief. Also, I believe you need support during your uric acid treatment program. So if your doctor doesn’t provide clinical support services, you should talk about your treatment with experienced gout sufferers.
