Uric Acid Crystals » Uric Acid Crystals
This photograph of uric acid crystals is taken under polarizing light at 400x magnification.
Polarizing light causes urate crystals to appear yellow or blue depending on the direction of the filter in relation to the alignment of the crystals. This sample is from a gouty tophus – synovial fluid samples normally show a much lower concentration.
Samples should be analyzed immediately, since crystals will dissolve.
