Gout sufferers are obviously concerned with pain and food, but the most important thing you must learn is how to lower the uric acid.
If you can manage uric acid, you can manage your gout.
If you do not manage uric acid you will never get rid of gout. Whatever treatment you are taking for gout, medical or alternative, you must measure uric acid levels.
Arrange for regular blood tests to test uric acid. It is the only way to tell if treatment is working or not. Do not rely on the fact that pain may have gone. If uric acid is not lower than 6mg/dL then your gout pain will come back - probably worse than ever.
Gout Information
I have written several pages about uric acid, including how to lower uric acid levels and how to avoid raising them.
It is a complicated subject, particularly as uric acid is a good thing. It is vital for humans, but too much of it can lead to gout.
Each month I review which are the most popular pages on my website. This month, two pages about uric acid made the top three. This does not surprise me, as most gout sufferers are looking for more information about uric acid and how to reduce it.
What does surprise me is that the top position is held by a page that is nowhere near finished yet. Is this a sign that people want me to write less? Or a sign that people want more information on how to reduce uric acid? I will take it to be the latter, and concentrate on adding more uric acid information just as soon as I can.
The way uric acid causes gout pain is complicated. This explanation simplifies the pathway from uric acid to pain and shows you how to manage each factor.
