July 2008, Mandell. Although hyperuricemia is significant at 6.8mg/dL (0.40 mmol/L), some labs include higher values in the normal range. Hyperuricemia does not prove gout, but patients need to be reviewed individually to assess other factors, as untreated gout is serious.
