1. Celiac Disease
My son , now 16 has had alot of pain off & on in his heels, ankle,& knee for a few years now. After 5 years of dr's he got dx with celiac disease(does not tolerate any gluten). His pain has stopped once gluten free but returns when a sport begins & he runs everyday.One week of soccer practice & he had to stop due to bad pain in ankle, heel & knee. Do you know of any corolation between eating an allergic food & uric acid? gout pain?
Don't know if he accidently got glutened or if an existing problem is already in some joints.

2. Seeking Gout Advice
My patient weighs 72 kgs, and his ht is 163cms, he is 53 yrs old,he has a cervical sponylosis,colour doppler ultrasound test shows that his left kidney is small in size, small calculus of <3 mm is seen in the lower pole,lithotrypsy done earlie,no hydronephrosis,prostrate enlarged (20cc)with residual urine,creatinine level-1.3(normal till 1.1mg/dl),on 10.6.06 and on 2.6.06 creatinine increased to 1.8 another lab( normal till 1.5 mg/dl)uric acid-8.3 mg%(normal till 7.7)on 10.6.06 and 5.1mg/dl(normal till 6.5)on 21.6.06,the labs says the latest test repeated and confirmed,pt says that he was on drug zyloric to treat uric acid,total chol.259 mg%,triglycerides-125mg%,HDL 47 mg%,LDL 182mg%,VLDL 30 mg%,pt is hypertensive 140/100 mm og hgt, pt has non ulcer dyspepsia,grade II fatty liver,pt has been on mixed diet before coming to me for advice,Kindly advice

3. Acidic Medication
Frank got a gout attack after going to the hospital for a gallbladder stone attack. When we did research on the web we realized that the normal saline I.V. which contains Sodium Cloride also abbreviated NaCl formed more acid in the body using the salt to form more hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Also they gave him morphine and possibly one other med. I found out that most medications are acidic with few exceptions. I suspect that when surgery is done the anesthetics they give are also acidic in nature because of the H+ ion. It is said that Surgery patients freguently get gout. The injury from the knife may contribute but the acidic medicines added to the body may be a bigger factor. Perhaps bicarbonate could be considered although I am not 100% sure of this speculation.

4. Gout of the Ear
Can you get gout in the outside part of your ear? I believe I have an imflamation of gout in my ear and have been taking Indomethacin and it seems to be working. I don't understand why I would have gout in the outside of my ear but I must say that it is more painful than anywhere I have ever had gout before. I can't sleep on my left side and if you blow on it I cry. It feels just like a headache only on the outside of your head. It throbs and has gotten twice as big as my other ear. I thought gout only attacked joints. Have you ever heard of this before? If so how was it treated and even more important how was it pevented? I take allopurinol every day but this lastest attack gave me no warning.
