If you are looking for information about drinks or foods causing gout, such as peanuts, chick peas or beans, please note that I have moved the detailed legume nutrition tables to a new website.

Why?

Because such detailed nutritional analysis is beyond the scope of this gout support website.

Before you start looking at individual foods causing gout, you need a good gout management plan, and a thorough understanding of how food affects gout. At the very least, you must read the information on planning an alkalizing gout diet menu. Then if you still want to assess PRAL values of baked beans, lima beans, or any other food or drink, you can browse my Acid-Alkaline Legumes and Legume Products Food Chart.

I have retained the former introduction to the beverages PRAL chart...

Foods Causing Gout

Foods causing gout are all foods if you eat them badly.

That means keeping variety in your diet, and balancing foods to avoid acidosis or other forms of nutritional stress.

If you are looking for purine information, please see the Purine Rich Foods Chart, but before consulting that table of food purine content, you should understand How Purines Affect Gout.

Legumes include a wide variety of foodstuffs. The list below also includes a lot of processed legumes, since they provide much of the vegetable protein that is used to synthesize fake meat products. You need to be very careful with these, and any other processed foods, as additives can effect your digestion or metabolism enough to increase uric acid.

Generally speaking, it's best to avoid foods causing gout by keeping to natural foods, like beans, and balancing pH through variety..

Please read my explanation of Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) for gout sufferers before you look at detailed food information.
