Why?
Because such detailed nutritional analysis is beyond the scope of this gout support website.
Before you start looking at individual gout foods to avoid, you need a good gout management plan, and a thorough understanding of how food affects gout. At the very least, you must read the information on planning an alkalizing gout diet menu. Then if you still want to assess PRAL values of lemonade, rum, or any other food or drink, you can browse my Acid-Alkaline Beverages Food Chart.I have retained the former introduction to the beverages PRAL chart...
Food For Gout? I'll Drink To That!
Don't forget! When you are deciding on food for gout, you also need to consider what you drink.
If you are looking for purine information, please see the Purine Rich Foods Chart, but before consulting that table of food purine content, you should understand How Purines Affect Gout.
The majority of beverages listed, listed below, have an alkalizing effect. However, be careful when you are comparing values. Some values are for 100g of ready-to-drink beverages. However, the higher values tend to be for powder or other similar that will be diluted before being drunk. In these case the amount you will normally use per serving will be much less that 100g. As a rough guide, there are about 20 teaspoons in 100g, so divide the table value by 20 where appropriate.
For most gout sufferers, the best drink is plain water. For variety, most of the drinks in this table are an acceptable substitute. Avoid highly acid forming drinks, unless you are taking them as part of a meal or snack that includes sufficient alkalizing food for gout.
Please read my explanation of Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) for gout sufferers before you look at detailed food information.
